Since commencing Stage 1 works in March, Georgiou Group has made steady progress on construction works at the Ocean Reef Marina development, including:

  • Construction of the future boat ramps
  • Development of new boat hardstand facilities for the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Marine Rescue Whitfords
  • Preparation of land for future residential, retail, and commercial spaces
  • Paving of the new permanent boat trailer car park
  • Installation of essential services such as water, stormwater drainage, and communications infrastructure in the southern end of the project

Pavement construction and early works for future public open spaces are currently underway. These areas include the family beach, playground, public toilets, and proposed RSL memorial relocation. These areas will be developed into landscaped recreational spaces for the community. Earthworks have been completed in the northern portion of site ready for underground services (electrical, sewer, water and drainage) to be installed through the future commercial and residential areas. Asphalt and kerbing have been installed in the southern section to provide access to the permanent boat trailer car park.

Work impacts and access changes

The new permanent boat trailer car park will be open from late October 2024. Access will be from Ocean Reef Road and Boat Harbour Quays, with a portion of the carpark opening. Please follow the signs on Ocean Reef Road. Construction activities are continuing to take place for the future boat ramps. Pedestrian and vehicle access will be provided from the new boat trailer car park to the existing boat ramps for launch/ retrieval of boats. Access to Boat Harbour Quays north of Hodges Drive will be modified to local traffic only, which includes access for Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club (ORSSC) members and Marine Rescue Whitfords (MRW) members from late October.

All Boat Harbour Quays access south of Hodges Drive will close between the boat ramps and the ORSSC/MRW to allow for earthworks to be undertaken safely. New private boat storage for the ORSSC will be opened in the south of the marina, near the future boat ramps, alongside the newly opened boat trailer car park. Temporary public toilet facilities will be provided next to the permanent boat trailer car park.

RIC (Rapid Impact Compaction) to stabilise reclaimed land works to prepare the ground for construction.

What’s next?

Following the opening of a portion of the new boat trailer car park, the temporary boat trailer car park will be demolished to allow construction of public open space which will include an ocean themed playground, terraced lawn area, along with a family-friendly beach area. Installation of precast concrete slabs for the future boat ramp access is expected to commence in late October. Construction of the Destination Basin Edge Wall is underway to enable future development near the Marina. Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC), which is pictured above, is required to stabilise reclaimed land at the Destination Basin Edge Wall in November/December. This will enable the construction of future boat holding jetties and future development lots for residential, retail and commercial Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club spaces. Construction of the first stage of boat pens is expected to commence in 2025. The construction of the family-friendly beach area will commence in late October to early November.

Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Marine Rescue Whitfords

Byte Construct is making great progress on the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Marine Rescue Whitfords (which will also house the Marina Manager) facilities, with the site now ready for construction. These two new buildings will deliver improved functionality and amenity for these community focused organisations, which are due for completion in late 2025.

Site progress

The civil storm water system has now been installed along with the in-ground lift pits for both buildings (pictured above). The lift pits, to be installed at both the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Marine Rescue Whitfords, will serve as maintenance space for both lifts. This work has allowed the plumbers and electricians to start their initial work on both buildings. Next up are the foundations and ground slabs.

Sheoak harvesting

Sheoak trees near the existing beach were sustainably milled into timber for shade structures in the public open space, offering a locally sourced, eco-friendly solution.
