It’s a pleasure to kick off 2025 by sharing the first Project Update of the year with you! We hope you had a wonderful festive season.

When we last connected, we shared news about the start of construction of the family-friendly beach and preparation for construction of the coastal pool. Now, we’re progressing on the new boat ramps, and landscaping works.

Progress over the festive season

Late 2024 saw significant progress on the family beach and the creation of the Destination Basin Edge Wall — the structural foundation along  parts of water’s edge. This edge will complement the future boat mooring jetties to be installed within the basin. Catch a glimpse of the progress in the November Project Update video below.

Landscaping and central parkland works

Landscaping works will soon begin, along with preparations for the future ocean-themed playground, which will feature a lobster centrepiece and terraced lawns. This will create a vibrant, welcoming space for families to enjoy.

Designs are advancing for a bike pump track set to open in 2026. Catering to mountain bike and BMX riders of all ages and skill levels, it promises to be an exciting addition for the community.

Work has also begun on installing the underground cables for the future microgrid. This onsite solar powered energy microgrid will provide sustainable cost-effective electricity throughout the precinct.

New road and pavements servicing the marina development will be constructed, including the commencement of works for the roundabout connecting Hodges Drive to Boat Harbour Quays.

If you missed our refreshed video on what to expect for the future marina, make sure you check it out below! We’ve included new artist impressions of what the future precinct will look like, including the residential and commercial areas, new viewpoints of the central parkland and updated shots of the family beach and coastal pool.

Boat ramp changes

As mentioned in the Construction Update, works on the new boat ramps are progressing well, with precast panel installation and concrete works nearly complete. Due to the logistical constraints of maintaining public access to the existing boat ramps, a staged approach is required to allow for the commissioning and opening of the new ramps. A partial opening of the new boat ramps is scheduled for mid to late February 2025.

Partial opening of new boat ramps

  • Southern ramps opening: Initially, the four new southern boat ramps will open as part of the phased commissioning process.
  • Temporary pontoons: The floating pontoons from the existing ramps will be reused temporarily while new pontoons are being manufactured.
  • Ramp closures: Once the four new southern boat ramps are operational, the current ramps will be closed and demolished to make way for the final stages of construction.
  • Public access: Public access to the ramps will be maintained throughout all stages of construction and commissioning.
  • Full opening: All eight new ramps are expected to open to the public in mid to late 2025.
  • Lighting trial: A trial of suitable lighting for the floating pontoons will be conducted. Based on the results, additional lighting will be rolled out across the remaining pontoons.

Construction progress on new ORSSC and Marine Rescue Whitfords buildings

The Marine Rescue Whitfords and Marine Manager building recently had its final concrete pour. You can also view the progress of the ORSSC (Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club) building, too. Both buildings are anticipated to be complete in late 2025.

Project Update pause

We usually send out a Project Update each month, but with the upcoming WA State Government Election, we will be pausing our Updates until March, so you won’t get a February Project Update in your inbox. Our Project Team will still be available to answer your queries during this period — find our contact details here. You can also view our latest Construction Update here, which has more detailed information on construction works and impacts.

And, if you’ve got queries about the project in the meantime, why not check out our new FAQ page? We’ll be back in your inbox from late March/early April.
