Major updates

This year saw massive progress at the Ocean Reef Marina site. With Georgiou Group working on Stage 1 of the project, and Byte Construct building the new Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club/Joondalup City RSL and Marine Rescue Whitfords facilities, lots of milestones were reached. New boat ramps opened in late July!

Works on the new boat ramps are now complete, with all eight ramps open!

A big thank you to all boat users for your patience during construction.

Here’s what’s new:
• Longer jetties – the new 65m jetties are at least 24m longer than before, offering more space to launch and retrieve vessels.
• Extended ramps – built beyond Australian Standard depth requirements to suit a wider range of vessels.
• Deeper ramp toe – now 1.46m below the lowest astronomical tide (standard is 1.2m for deep-draft vessels).
• Southern jetty upgrade – now 108m long with space for temporary mooring of small craft, including a dedicated kayak launch and retrieval area.

Minor works will continue over the next few weeks to install additional lighting, complete landscaping, and final touches.

Over the coming months, some ramps will temporarily close to allow for final in-water works. Please follow all signage during the short-term closures.

Ocean Reef Marina boat ramps to open July 2025

From Monday April 7, a new section of Boat Harbour Quays will open for vehicle access to the boat ramps and trailer car parks. A one-way system will be in place during this time.

From Monday April 7, a new section of Boat Harbour Quays will open to provide vehicle access via the permanent road layout to the boat ramps and trailer car parks.

This will allow contractors to remove the temporary access track and begin connecting water and electrical services from Ocean Reef Road.

During this time, access to and from the available boat trailer car park will follow a one-way circular system — please refer to the map below.

Thanks for your patience as we continue building WA’s world-class marina!

Shared path temporary closure

The shared path will be temporarily closed to allow for Stage 1 construction works to be undertaken. During this time, there will be a detour in place along Ocean Reef Road as outlined below.

Compaction works will be completed late October 2025 using Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) to stabilise reclaimed land that will be used for future residential, retail and commercial spaces. These works will be carried out during normal work hours (7am – 7pm Mon-Sat).

Similar compaction work has been carried out by the current contractor where land was reclaimed for the new boat ramps.

A section of the new boat trailer parking opened in October 2024. Construction of further boat parking and the future boat ramps is ongoing. This work will continue into 2025.
