Construction at Ocean Reef Marina is progressing across multiple fronts — including boat ramp upgrades, underground services, car parks, road infrastructure and destination basin edge works — with some access changes in place to support these key milestones.

  • Access to Ocean Reef Marina will change in the coming months to support ongoing construction milestones. Visitors can continue to enter via Ocean Reef Road and Boat Harbour Quays but should follow all traffic management signage while works continue and more parking areas are completed.
  • Construction of the next four boat ramps is progressing well, following the opening of the first four in mid-February. These new ramps, including fully installed pontoons, are expected to be completed by mid-2025. The initial four ramps will briefly close to allow jetty extension works to be carried out.
  • Underground service installation for electrical, sewer, stormwater drainage and communications is nearly complete in the southern part of the site and is well underway in the northern area.
  • Works on new road infrastructure, pavement and car parks are ongoing, including construction of the future Hodges Drive roundabout, which will provide access to the new marina development.
  • Concrete works are continuing along the destination basin edge wall (the support structure wall along the water’s edge), following commencement in April.

Work impacts

Reclamation of land

Further Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) has been completed to stabilise reclaimed land where the old boat ramps were demolished. This will enable the construction of essential land based marine infrastructure for the future Marina Manager.

Access changes to Ocean Reef Marina boat ramps

A newly constructed portion of Boat Harbour Quays opened on April 7 to enable vehicle access via the permanent road layout to the boat ramps and boat trailer car park. This will enable contractors to remove the current temporary access track, to allow for water and electrical service connections from Ocean Reef Road.

Please note, during this time, access in and out of the available boat trailer car park will follow a one-way circular system. See the map below.

Pedestrian access at the western end of Hodges Drive that leads to the current Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club (ORSSC) and Marine Rescue Whitfords facilities is also closed until mid-2025. It will temporarily re-open for Easter and ANZAC Day public holiday weekends, however, will then remain closed until the new roundabout is completed.

Vehicle access to the parking area for members on Hodges Drive will remain in place. Please always follow traffic management and directional signage while construction continues in the area.

ORSSC and Marine Rescue Whitfords construction progress

Progress at the new ORSSC building continues to gain momentum, with several key milestones achieved in April. The first floor of the new building is undergoing rapid transformation, while the main roof cover and box gutters are scheduled for completion in the coming month. Additionally, roof safety and mechanical service installations have also begun, laying the foundation for essential plumbing and electrical systems.

The building has begun to cut a more defined and polished exterior with cladding being installed, while site measurements for aluminium windows, doors and external louvres are being taken. Meanwhile stud walls and floor tiles are shaping the internal spaces, all bringing us closer to the final stages and overall vision.

What’s Next?

The four new northern boat ramps will open to the public mid-2025 to facilitate the closure and final completion of the four southern ramps. The full opening of all eight boat ramps is on track to open mid to late 2025.

Removal of overhead power lines along Boat Harbour Quays will take place mid-2025 with the energisation of a new underground supply.

Construction of the future Hodges Drive roundabout west of Ocean Reef Road continues, providing future access to the Ocean Reef Marina development for all visitors and marina residents.

Ongoing construction at the destination basin edge wall, as well as road and underground service installations site wide, will also continue.

Construction of two public spaces in the southern area of the development will start shortly including works to cater for the ocean themed playground, pump track and terraced lawn area alongside the family-friendly beach.
