Stage 1 works at Ocean Reef Marina are nearing completion, and we recently welcomed some special guests to Marina Cove, the marina’s waterfront park, to reveal the winning names for its playground icons at a special preview event.

Chosen by the community, the names add a local touch to one of Ocean Reef Marina’s newest public spaces, which will open later this year.

With new boat ramps, public open spaces, playgrounds, a waterfront promenade and marina infrastructure now delivered, Ocean Reef Marina is rapidly taking shape as Perth’s newest waterfront destination.

To mark the milestone, we’ll be hosting a Community Open Day later this year. In the meantime, take a look at the progress on site in our latest project update video.

We have our naming winners!

The Ocean Reef Marina community has officially named the playground’s two feature play elements, following an enthusiastic response to our naming competition.

After receiving more than 300 name submissions and over 1,200 community votes, the giant orange western rock lobster has been named Nippy, while the shipwreck play structure will be known as Reef Runner.

Playground icon naming winners Molly and Isla

Congratulations to Molly Elliot, who submitted the winning name for Nippy, and Isla Randall, who came up with Reef Runner.

Designed to reflect the marina’s coastal setting, both custom play structures feature climbing opportunities, slides and imaginative play experiences for children of all ages.

Thank you to everyone who entered and voted. The creativity and enthusiasm shown by the community has helped create a space that truly belongs to local families and visitors.

Whilst we’re not quite ready to open yet, we can’t wait to welcome families and visitors to the new playground and surrounding open spaces at Ocean Reef Marina later this year.

As part of the naming competition, we hosted a preview event of the playground. Get a first look of the ocean-themed playground below, which will open later this year.
